Easy Guide to Get to Favignana & Levanzo Islands

Favignana and Levanzo are tiny, gorgeous islands off the West Coast of Italy. The way to get to them is to take a ferry or private boat tour from Trapani or Marsala on the west side of Sicily.

You can spend the night in Trapani to make your day trip easier, but I did not. Instead, I stayed in Mondello right outside of Palermo and drove early in the morning to make it to our boat tour.

Ferry

There are three ferry companies that operate ferries to from Marsala or Trapani to the Islands. The ferry companies are Liberty LinesSiremar, and Torre Lines.

You can book ahead of time online at Direct Ferries or buy tickets directly at the port. They run throughout the entire day from 7AM to 9PM. Arrive at least an hour before departure to secure a spot.

They take anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour depending on the boat. You can also book between islands and back to your original departure city. Taking the ferry is great if you want the flexibility of making your own schedule.

Private Tours Around Favignana & Levanzo

We opted to book a fixed tour around the Favignana and Levanzo islands which meant that the boat had fixed times and stops. This was convenient because we didn’t have to do any research or stress out about ferry times.

We took a larger boat full of people. It was the cheaper option. If I could go back I would do a smaller boat with more frequent swimming stops. The smaller boats are also more flexible with the times and activities.

Getting Around

It’s super easy to explore Favignana as the island isn’t very big. When you first arrive at the port, you will find stands full of rentals. Rent a car or scooter to easily get around. You can also walk since the roads are well paved and empty. Warning: it can get VERY hot on the island, especially during high sun in the summertime.

Things to Do on the Islands

Steps away from the ferry dock, you will find a small town with shops, outdoor cafes, pizzerias, and more. Beside the town is a small beach with a beachfront cafe called Magneva. We bought an incredible pistachio espresso drink that was so good we got a second one.

If you chose to get a bike or scooter rental, other beaches are scattered around the island and easy to access through the main roads. Each beach on Favignana island is unique and gorgeous with turquoise blue water, white sand, and ancient structures somewhere nearby.
