Beautiful Bocas del Toro Panama
Hello Friends,
I’m currently in BOCAS DEL TORO, Panama. I’ve been here for 1 week total … although it feels like 3.
The first couple of days were tough. I realized that I haven’t been ALONE abroad in a new country since Morocco in 2022 and so much has happened since then.
To get here I flew to Panama City, took a taxi to a smaller airport, spent about five minutes from check-in to the gate, then took another small plane here. Plane > Cab > Plane. Easy peasy.

Some background: Bocas del Toro is an island chain on the Caribbean side of Panama. It’s absolutely STUNNING. Every beach looks like a postcard. Exhibit A:
There are a TON of over-the-water bungalows and hotels. Think Bora Bora but less expensive and local (for my USA friends). Popular activities include island hopping, snorkeling, scuba diving, and stalking wildlife.
Most of the food is fresh & local. As in, I saw them pull my lobster out of the water after I ordered it for dinner. I nearly wept when I tasted the first bite of homemade butter garlic sauce on coconut rice.

Every day I eat fresh fruit from my local fruit guy who tells me when new produce comes in. I mean …
Currently, I’m volunteering at a hotel as a “party promoter.” Essentially, I hang out with guests for an hour a day to watch the sunset behind palm trees, sip free drinks, and discuss traveling. Not a bad way to spend a month abroad.
If you’re looking for similar volunteer opportunities check out World Packers, Work Away, and Wwoof. There are so many types of “jobs” from 4 to 40 hours a week ALL over the world.
