Planning the Ultimate Girls Trip

Everyone knows the secret to an amazing girls trip is having amazing girls. The location is always secondary. That said, I have done every single one of these trips with a group of girls and I can vouch that they are super fun.

I cannot rank them, as everyone is into different things. But I find that the less activities planned, the easier the trip. All you really need to keep your friends happy is a healthy dose of sunlight, constant food/drinks, and good photo ops.

All-Inclusive Resort

I am an avid all-inclusive hater, but even I have to admit it is a guaranteed way to make your girlfriends happy across the board. No one has to look up restaurants or call a cab or plan activities. No one will catch an attitude because they’re walking too much or too little.

Everything is easily accessible. Also, everyone is usually less cranky when there are free, unlimited drinks getting poured into their mouths before noon.

Activities include: drinking, resting, daily excursions, hitting on lifeguards, drinking again

Tropical Stay

This is similar to the previous one except you don’t have to limit yourself to a resort. A great place for this is Tulum, Costa Rica, or Puerto Rico where everything can be walking distance* from your stay.

*Make sure everything actually is walking distance from your stay. Girls get angry when they have to commute in heels for a long time. Rightfully so.

Activities include: visiting local beaches, cenotes, waterfalls, sipping fresh coconuts, sweating/partying

European Getaway

For girls who like walking. No matter where you go, what you do, and how long you are there, you will end up doing a LOT of walking. However, Europe is worth it (insert sparkly emoji).

Sip cappuccinos outside a corner cafe, have the waitress judge you for not knowing her native tongue, stare at a 500 year old church across the street, fall in love with a man riding by in his lil scooter, pray to get on said scooter.

Activities include: historical landmarks, wineries, restaurants with long tasting menus, museums, walking tours, pub crawls, shopping, and Road trips

International City

This includes cities all over the world from Singapore to Mexico City to Buenos Aires. A trip like this requires open minded girls that like trying new things. Or, cities that offer familiar things: i.e. American food, Uber, and clubs with music they like.

Another thing to keep in mind is how anxious your friends are in unfamiliar places. You do not want them looking over their shoulders every corner you turn.

Activities include: brunch, sightseeing, shopping, partying, and photo ops with city vistas in the background (please see photo above)

U.S. City

The city you choose dramatically changes the vibe of the trip, so make sure your friends share interests and hobbies. For example: Nashville for music, Miami for partying, New Orleans for food. Not to say that each doesn’t offer all three, but it’s very clear what you’re going to do in each.

Find out how they feel about renting a car and/or using public transportation. This effects cost and time dramatically. L.A. without a car is awful. NY with a car is awful. Move accordingly.

Activities include: sightseeing, art museums, markets, vintage stores, walking tours, cafes, rooftop bars, and biking

Cabin Trip

I’ve done this in the winter, spring, and fall, each season offering its own charm. But the concept remains the same: an adult sleepover usually at an amazing AirBnb. It’s a great way to stay local, save money, and get to know your friends on a deeper level over midnight wine and s’mores.

With enough snacks, games, and karaoke songs, even complete strangers will become best friends by the second day. I have witnessed this many times.

Activities include: potluck dinner, cooking, card games, movie night, karaoke, nature walk/hike, bonfire, and crafts (i.e. vision boards)
