Top 5 Best Unexpected Apps for Travel

Spoiler alert: most of these are not conventional travel apps. None of them include stays, airlines, nor tour booking sites. However, I use them everywhere I go.

Maps.Me

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the best GPS app. Mostly because you can download entire maps for free and use them without any cell service. You will never be lost again.

Splitwise

This is the app I use when traveling with friends. We create a group and add every charge, along with who was involved. At the end of the trip, it condenses the charges so each person only owes one other person.

Shazam

Lowkey one of the best travel apps. It’s the best for getting to know local culture and taking a piece of it home with you. Shazam everywhere you go then make a playlist. Whenever you listen to the playlist, you will be transported back in time.

Tiktok

The best social media app for travel tips. Tiktok creators have thorough imagery, analysis, and ratings. They show exactly what places look like and give honest reviews. You can save videos into folders based on your trips to reference later on.

Priority Pass

The app shows airport lounges around the world, their hours, and locations. Unfortunately, it’s exclusive to priority pass members. I get access through my Capital One Venture X card. But once you’re in, it will change how you travel. Now, I go to the airport early just to get free food and sprawl out in a pleather armchair with a view.
