Valentine’s Day at an Istanbul Airport
In the last week I’ve:
Surfed in Santa Catalina
on the Pacific Coast of Panama. Surfing destroyed me. I stood up for about 1.2 seconds in 3 hours of classes. I have scratches, bruises, and hip & neck pain. But I also desperately want to do it again.
Surfing taught me that the point is not to be perfect. That’s impossible. The point is to show up and practice. To show up when you’re sore, tired, and hurting. Get back on again and again and again, knowing you will definitely 100% eat shit. Heartbreaking discipline. Or, discipline through heartbreak.

Went snorkeling
at a UNESCO world heritage site. I forgot to charge my GoPro so just believe me when I say I saw two turtles, a lil shark, and many fishies.
Spent 9 hours in commute
from the beach to the city. When I arrived, I crashed into my hotel room and didn’t leave, eat, or work for almost 24 hours. Instead, I binged “One Day” on Netflix. I already knew the entire story and still cried for most of it.
Celebrated Carnival
in Panama City. By “celebrated” I mean I walked by, danced a couple songs, and left to lay in bed again.

Spent Valentine’s Day at an Istanbul lounge
I posted up in a corner “office booth” at the lounge to eat, work, and write.
Flew to Singapore
I actually slept on my flights. Probably because I chugged 2 large glasses of Black Label before the first. Though nothing will compare to the time my friend gave me a sedative for bipolar people before a flight. I was in and out of consciousness for 2 days. But WOW, I’ve never rested so deeply. I digress.
All these plans sound good written down but feel crazy living in the flesh. I’m exhausted and READY to see my friends. Constantly meeting new people and squeezing your life into bite sized details for small talk is draining.
All I want to do is eat a buffet of food at a Singapore night market with a table of familiar faces around me. So, instead of resting after my flight, I will be dragging myself there tonight.
Tune in next week to read about how I took two more flights to go to another country with another environment to throw myself into another sea.
